Call for Paper Convegno IISTC “A family with an addiction problem. From theory to practice” – 11 aprile, Ciechanów (Polonia)

Su gentile richiesta del Prof. Fabio Olivieri, segnaliamo la Call for Paper  per la XXV International Interdisciplinary Scientific and Training Conference “A family with an addiction problem. From theory to practice”, che si terrà l’11.03.2025 presso la Faculty of Health and Social Sciences della Mościcki University of Applied Sciences a Ciechanów (Polonia).
A family with an addiction problem can be characterized by the words: chaos, disorganization, emotional instability, high level of conflict, difficult marital and family relations, reduced cohesion and increased social isolation. This is a family that does not fulfill its tasks, including the most important of them, which is to satisfy the basic needs of family members, especially children. The parental, marital, socializing, care giving and, above all, economic functions are “severely” neglected. Addiction takes the central position, which until recently referred to the abuse of alcohol, drugs or other psychoactive substances.
Currently, the so-called “new” addictions, often referred to as behavioral addictions, are more and more common. They cover the entire spectrum of behaviours and activities, such as: gambling, webaholism, eddiction, workaholism, anorexia, shopaholism, orthorexia, compulsive overeating, sex addiction and many others. These addictions can be characterized by compulsive and habitual engagement in specific behaviours, despite negative consequences for health, social relations and everyday life. They are very dangerous and require a complex and long-term treatment process.
The aim of the conference is a multidimensional discourse on diverse addiction problems that families face in the modern world. We intend to conduct the discussion both in the area of current theories and concepts, as well as pragmatic solutions. We would like to discuss the following issues: Portrait of a family with an addiction problem – characteristics, symptoms, functioning. Chemical and behavioral addictions – causes, symptoms, types. Legal regulations related to addictions. Physical, mental and social implications related to addictions. Health problems and disorders in the functioning of children and adolescents raised in a family with an addiction problem. Prevention of chemical and behavioral addictions as a challenge for local institutions and non-governmental organizations. The role of school in the prevention of addictions.
Psychological and psychotherapeutic help – (non) innovative methods, forms and programs. Social work oriented towards the family with an addiction problem. The treatment system for addicts and their family members. Facilities, methods, programs. The proposed topics for discussion do not exhaust the complex topic of addiction experienced by a family. Hence, we give you the opportunity to submit your own proposals and suggestions in this area. They will contribute to enriching the discourse, so that it is more complete, creative and fruitful, especially in the area of prevention, treatment, help and support for the family. We want the conference to become a forum for the exchange of experiences, knowledge, opinions of both representatives of the academic community in Poland and abroad, as well as practitioners, methodologists, doctors, social workers, representatives of various institutions.
Due to the international nature of the conference, the debate on the problem of addiction will take place in a hybrid formula, excluding workshop sessions, which will take place in the university building of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences.
